What this trains

Front and back view. The highlighted part is where this exercise works most; paler areas are helpers.

Targets: Side delts

Primary: Shoulders

Secondary: Traps

How to

  1. 1Set the pulley at the bottom. Stand side-on to the stack and hold the handle with the hand farthest from the machine, the cable crossing in front of your body.
  2. 2With a soft bend in your elbow, raise your arm out to the side until it is about shoulder height.
  3. 3Pause briefly, then lower slowly to the start without letting the weight pull your arm in.
  4. 4Lead with your elbow rather than your hand and do not shrug or lean away.
