What this trains

Front and back view. The highlighted part is where this exercise works most; paler areas are helpers.

Targets: Upper chest

Primary: Chest

Secondary: Shoulders (front delts)

How to

  1. 1Set both pulleys at the bottom and take a handle in each hand. Step forward into a split stance with a slight lean and a soft bend in your elbows.
  2. 2Sweep your hands up and together in an arc until they meet in front of your upper chest.
  3. 3Squeeze, then lower the handles back down and out under control until you feel a stretch across the chest.
  4. 4Keep your elbow angle fixed so the movement comes from the shoulder, not from bending and straightening the arms.
