What this trains

Front and back view. The highlighted part is where this exercise works most; paler areas are helpers.

Primary: Quadriceps

Secondary: Glutes, Hamstrings

How to

  1. 1Stand facing a bench or box holding a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. 2Place one foot fully on the bench and drive through that heel to stand up, bringing the other knee up.
  3. 3Step back down under control with the same leg that went up first.
  4. 4Do not push off the back foot; choose a box height that lets your thigh reach about parallel.
